My publisher called me Barbara Cartland because he says my books are short and I write too many of them. That's seemed hurtful and just his opinion - I really don't care. I write because I have to write - I see no reason to write long books if I don't want to - i write for mothers and housewives and people with little time on their hands. I write for people who have never read a book. I write for foreign students who want to read something in basic English without having to pick up slang. And furthermore I refuse to write in Scouse just because I live on Merseyside. I wonder how many other writers hate being manipulated into a style of product they dislike, for whatever reason and which they have neither the time nor inclination to follow. Had my moan, now i can face the day.
